The half way point has come for my internship with CC and I am amazed at the diversity of projects I have been working on. I believe this is one of the primary advantages of working at a small NPO. Projects have included:
- Updating FAQ’s
- Interviewing outside organization relating to the licenses
- Surveying international requirements for copyright assignment (Japan, Italy, UAE, France, UK, Germany)
- Researching moral rights
- Exploring the anatomy of a song
- Helping define a collected work
- Collecting feedback on public domain dedications (CC0)
I have some larger projects launching over the next few weeks and look forward to engaging in more legal research and writing as time moves on. The longer I work at CC the more area’s of copyright I come in to contact with and the more I enjoy the copyright landscape. Related to the internship, I have also had the opportunity to meet several innovators in the open access and copyright fields favorite from last week was Evan Prodromou from Identi.ca a new micro blogging site that uses CC licenses to share content, the site is also built on open standards and open software! If you are interested in following what is going on at CC I recommend adding the CC staff list to your friends list most of them have been added on my profile, Sarterus, already.
PS One of the techies here wrote a program that fetches the local “Curry in Hurry” restaurant menu and redistributes it to everyone before lunch. I love working with techies. My curry count for the summer is 15 lunches out of 25. Thanks Nathan Kinkade!
Update: Frank Tobias , a fellow member of Students for Free Culture and CC Tech intern, was the writer of curry bot.
